The Benefits of Homemade Wheatgrass Juice
Wheatgrass is a name for the Agropyron plants. Wheatgrass is related to wheat but really looks like fairly common lawn grass when it is in its early growing stages. Wheatgrass is best known as a plant used in homemade juices and is properly juiced via a

Wheatgrass is a good plant to juice because it is a natural source of vitamins and minerals. Wheatgrass is high in a number of amino acids, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll, and fiber. Further, the wheatgrass plant grows fast in a range of ideal, and not so ideal, conditions and also grows indoors.
Wheatgrass enthusiasts claim that it has many health benefits, including helping prevent heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Wheatgrass’ fiber is thought to help aid digestion, alleviate constipation, maintain bowel regularity and act as a intestinal cleanser.
However, per the American Cancer Society there has been only one clinical study that indicated wheatgrass consumption can cure, control or prevent disease. This 2002 study found that wheatgrass juice appeared to help control symptoms of ulcerative colitis, or chronic inflammation of the large intestine. About 3 ounces of wheatgrass juice was consumed daily by participants in the study. Those who drank the juice experienced less pain and inflammatory symptoms than those that drank a placebo.
There are no existing clinical studies supporting all of wheatgrass’ healthy, beneficial claims. However, the one clinical study on intestinal inflammation did show benefits from wheatgrass juice and many avid and active juicers swear by this plant. It is clear that wheatgrass is healthy, full of vitamins and minerals and easy to juice and consume. Thus, enjoy wheatgrass’ juice. However, it is best to juice wheatgrass in your
juicer
in combination with other fruit and vegetable juices as it does not have the best stand alone taste.
